EDUCATION ACTIVITY

Pregraduate Programme in Slovak Language

Name of the course: Physiology
Position of the course in curriculum: 2nd, 3rd and 4th Semester
Extension of the course in programme:

Veterinary Medicine Branch (GVM) 65 h. lectures and 117 h. practical classes
Food Hygiene Branch (FHVM) 52 h. lecture and 104 h. practical classes

Pregraduate Programme in English Language (GVM)

Name of the course: Physiology
Position of the course in curriculum: 2nd, 3rd and 4th Semester
Extension of the course in programme:

Veterinary Medicine Branch (GVM) 65 h. lectures and 117 h. practical classes
Pregraduate programme in english language for students completed BsC degree (GVM)

Name of the course: Physiology
Position of the course in curriculum: 5th, and 6th Semester
Extension of the course in programme: 39 h. lectures and 78 h. practical classes
Objectives: Students full-filled the programm in Physiology should know and understand:

basic physiological concepts of the discipline of physiology
basic terminology of physiology
the principles and processes of the living functions of different cells organized in organs tissues and systems
the mechanisms by which the organ systems are controlled, regulated and coordinated in the animal body
the values and ranges of physiological variables need to distiguish normal function in healthy animal
how to plane, organize, conduct and document experiment on living organism or systems
how to analyse and interprate data from experiments and to validate them

Methodology: The basic material of veterinary physiology is available in the 2 volumed lecture notes written by the teachers of the department. The practical handbooks are also written by the teachers of the department. At the lectures we use transparent sheets and slides. The practical teaching activity consists of direct experiments on the living animals, observation on the living animals, experiment demonstration using semialternative methods, laboratory experiments and seminars using videorecording and computer immagination.

Assesment: Practical work is assesed throughout the course and includes two short research report presentation (one page extention, 5 minute limited presentation by students).

Exams: The final examination includes theoretical and practical materials of three semesters. The final examination consists of two parts. In the first part students take the practical exam in which are given and must solve practically problem. This exam is evaluated before the oral exam. In the course of the oral exams students are given 3 questions choisen from 175 questions, these are divided to three part. There are 30 minutes for the elaboration. Answers can be given in an optimal order. If the candidate id not able to answer the one question, we have second and third examination time.
