Summary
Early detection of developmental anomalies among males is important for both breeder and veterinary surgeon. The results of our research, carried out on 105 male puppies, indicated descensus testis in 98% of the cases (including 4 cryptorchid dogs) to day 45th postpartum.
Those puppies observed were of different breeds and from 31 litters: they were examined between days 2 and 50 postpartum. Palpability of the testes in the inguinal area was first possible on day 18 postpartum at the earliest, and on day 45 at the latest.
Hormonal treatment with HCG (75% therapeutic success) was used in 4 cases of inguinal unilateral cryptorchidism.
Key words: dog; descensus testis; cryptorchid
