Summary
Molecular epidemiological analysis of group B streptococcal (GBS) strains was performed. The presence and expression of the genes encoding for potentially pathogenic factors of 69 strains representing serotypes Ia, Ib, II and III were tested by immunochemical, serological, and genetic methods. Pulse field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) has been chosen for genome structure analysis in 20 GBS strains. The obtained results permit us to make a proposal concerning GBS evolution and to suggest the differentiation of GBS strains based on genome structure.
Key words: group B streptococci (GBS); alpha and beta antigens; IgA-binding; pulse field gel electrophoresis (PFGE)
