Summary

Since 1992 Chlamydia pecorum has been the fourth species of genus Chlamydia and together with Chlamydia psittaci is an animal pathogen. The actual classification of the genus Chlamydia, a description of properties of C. pecorum, the information available on genetics and the immunochemistry spectrum of infections caused by C. pecorum and diagnostic methods are summarized.
