Summary
Although the fiftieth anniversary is one of the most celebrated milestones in anyone's personal life, no less importance is attached to such a jubilee in the history of various nationwide establishments. The fiftieth anniversary of the University of Veterinary Medicine in Košice, the first and only education institution of its kind in Slovakia, indisputably deserves such attention.
The Veterinary College in Košice was established by a statute of the Slovak National Council dated 16th December, 1949, to take effect with the school year 1949/50. A relatively suitable place for the new College was found in the complex of buildings homing the former Komensky Detention Institute (detention centre for adolescents) on the northern outskirts of Košice (eastern Slovakia).
