Summary
In this work, we describe the mass occurrence of verminous bronchopneumonia in a herd of 200 dairy cows. The sudden outbreak of the disease occurred at the end of August. The animals exhibited coughing, loss of weight, and decreased milk production. The average farm milk production decreased from 1600 to 250 l daily. Within 4-5 days after deworming, 6 cows died. The recovery to previous milk production and improvement of body condition took approximately 1.5 months. Heifers returning from summer pasture were suggested as a probable source of infection. The work also discusses possible ways of transmitting the infection, as well as preventive measures.
Key words: dairy cows; dictyocaulosis; herd occurrence; therapy; prevention
