Summary
Seventeen cattle were treated because of the diagnosis Dilatatio et torsio caeci et ansae proximalis coli in the Clinic for Surgery, of the Veterinary Faculty in Zagreb from 1970 to 2000. The cows were of various breeds and ages. One form of position change was found in all the cows operated upon and that was the anti-clockwise rotation although other possibilities were described by various authors. All the patients were treated radically with enterotomy. After evacuation of the intestinal contents, the torsion was spontaneously corrected. A total success was achieved in all cases; therefore, we prefer surgery above any conservative method of treatment.
Key words: caecum; dilatation; torsion; surgical treatment
