Summary

In this study, ovalbumin as a model antigen was used to observe antibody production in 23 cows immunized about 3 weeks before and re-immunized after parturition. Blood samples for ELISA antibody determination were taken once a week and the process of uterine involution was evaluated by rectal palpation (2-3 times weekly). In four cows, a longer time for uterine involution was observed. Ovalbumin antibody absorbance values in these dams showed a tendency to a nonsignificant decrease in comparison with the rest of the animals.

Key words: dairy cows; puerperium; antibody production
