Summary

The monitoring of 33 bitches with various stages of glandular cystic hyperplasia pyometra complex was carried out with the aid of ultrasonography and with the aid of radiography.
An important finding, concerning the use of ultrasonography for the determination, whether a bitch is to be treated medically (especially bitches with glandular cystic hyperplasia of endometrium: GCH) or surgically (mainly bitches with developed form of pyometra), is the difference between biometric parameters of the uterine horns of surgically and medically treated bitches.
In surgically treated bitches proportionally thin uterine wall with extended internal and external diameters of the uterine horns were dominant. In medically treated bitches, proportionally thick uterine wall with smaller internal and external diameters of the uterine horns prevailed.
In comparison with radiographic finding ultrasonographic imaging of the uterus is a more specific technique, which enables not only to determine the type of pyometra (local, segmental or tubular) but also to assess the integrity of the uterine wall and the character of the uterine content.
The degrees of echogenisity of the uterine content were not typical in both the surgically or medically treated bitches, which suggests that serous or viscid content can occur in both groups. Ultrasonography plays the leading role in the recognition of individual stages of glandular cystic hyperplasia-pyometra complex (GCH-PC).

Key words: ultrasonography; radiography; glandular cystic hyperplasia-pyometra complex; bitch
