Summary
Venous blood was collected from two veins - the vena jugularis and the vena coccygea media - of 16 lactating dairy cows to compare selected haematological and biochemical indices in blood and blood serum. We evaluated the degree of conformity and the differences between the results in relation to their clinical interpretation in routine practice. Among 27 analysed indices we recorded non-significant differences in 20 indices. In 7 indices we found significant differences (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01, resp.) with higher levels of WBC, ALP, total lipids and total protein in the blood collected from the jugular vein. In all the analysed indices we found a significant correlation between the two different sites used for blood sampling.
