Summary
The aim of the study was to demonstrate the forced vacuum impregnation method of von Hagens et al. (1987) modified by Henry and Butler (1990) involving "forced air" impregnation of dried (not fixed) lungs with a polymer BIODURTM S10/S3 (Germany) and xylene mixture. We compared this method to plastination standard S10 forced vacuum impregnation technique (von Hagens et al., 1987), but we have eliminated xylen from process.
This modification provides white, more durable, soft, flexible, and spongy lungs. It is possible to use them as specimens for teaching or as museum specimens.
Key words: plastination; polymer; lungs; preparation
